Is a Zoomer Right for Me?

The Zoomer can be used just about anywhere indoors or outdoors. It can handle several different terrains such as grass, carpet, dirt, and more.

In almost any case, yes. Check to be certain that the openings in your doorways are at least 27″ wide. Less than that will require you to get off and fold the Zoomer to pass through the doorway. Businesses (the mall, restaurants, etc.) are required to be ADA compliant. ADA compliant doorways are a minimum of 32″ wide, which is no problem for Zoomer.

The Zoomer Chair is capable of carrying a person weighing up to 275 lbs.

The Zoomer is only available in one size. See our SPECS page for dimensions. The maximum user weight limit is 275 pounds.

The Zoomer Chair is a one-handed, joystick-controlled chair. The joystick can even be installed on either side of the chair.

While many people use the Zoomer for many different reasons, the Zoomer Chair is a personal electric vehicle. If you are fully restricted to a sitting position, the Zoomer may not be for you. You must be able to get in and out of the chair.

Buying Your Zoomer

The Zoomer will arrive fully assembled out of the box. It will include the chair, a battery and charger. In addition it will include the hex key needed should you decide to remove the arm rests.

Unfortunately, the Zoomer is not covered by Medicare at this time.

Accessories such a seat back bag, cup/bottle holder, cane holder, spare batteries, and tires are all available HERE.

Using Your Zoomer

Whether you are at a restaurant having dinner, or just pulling up to your desk to get some work done, one of the greatest and unique things about Zoomer is that it easily fits under most desks and tables. Since the arm rests are just 25.5″ off the ground, you just pull right up like you would a normal chair.

The legal folks want to make sure we don’t promise it works with all desks and tables, but a standard table or desk is 28″ – 30″ high. The ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) dictates that to be compliant, your public seating must be a minimum of 27″ from the floor to the bottom of the table surface.

The short and easy answer is yes. There are a few things you need to know before taking your Zoomer on a plane. Providing you plan ahead and follow the basic instructions, airline travel is easy with the Zoomer. It will check as free baggage with most airlines but you are required to carry the battery on with you, which is the component that most of the rules apply to.

  • Be sure to contact your specific airline to ask for their procedures for transporting a battery powered mobility device.
  • The battery must be removed from the Zoomer prior to the Zoomer being transported on the airplane. The battery must be carried by the passenger as a carry on item.
  • You must notify the airlines in advance that you will be bringing a Lithium-ion battery for your Zoomer. They are then required to notify your pilot of the location of the battery in the aircraft. Thus you should notify your flight attendant of its location before takeoff.
  • You may be required to tape over the power terminal openings in the battery compartment of the Zoomer prior to transportation. Individual airline procedures may vary.

See your Zoomer USA User Manual for more info. Here is a link to the FAA regulations regarding battery powered chairs.
More info

Yes, the Zoomer does have a powered reverse.

The Zoomer Chair can easily be pushed around by the user when there is no rider in the chair.  It is not specifically intended for seated users to be pushed around by others as an alternative to the powered self-driving capabilities of the Zoomer Chair. Alternatively, you may lock your Zoomer in place if you choose to prevent it from being able to be pushed.

The swinging foot plate is not adjustable, however, the Zoomer is designed to fit people of most sizes.

The seat and back rest is not adjustable. Some Zoomer owners have chosen to add an additional cushion.

Customers that are closer to the Zoomers weight limit of 275 lbs. may find that the Zoomer is a little more difficult to use on very thick or heavily padded carpet when operating at low speed. The solution to this problem is to simply increase your speed setting. This will increase the ability for the Zoomer to move around and should not significantly increase the speed while on these types of surfaces.

Charging & Battery

Depending upon usage (speed, weight, etc.) the Zoomer Chair’s battery will last up to 8 miles of use.

The short answer is, it depends on the usage and conditions. The battery on average lasts for several years for many of our customers.

Charging takes 4 hours or less depending on the level of power already used. With a range of up to 8 miles, most owners rarely run the battery all the way down in a single day.

There is a battery indicator located on the control panel that tells you the battery life.

Yes. 52 pounds includes the weight of the battery.

Yes. It will operate on 110V or 220V, but you will need an inexpensive plug converter to fit the outlets of your foreign destination.
